We are proud to announce The Alexander Music Project, a transformative initiative that is bringing the gift of music to our students at Greenwood Primary School.
About the Strings Programme
Our Strings & Piano programme launched in 2024, and has flourished under the generous sponsorship of entrepreneur and philanthropist Mr Alexander Valentin, alongside support from the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Cape Town.
Mr Valentin, who hails from Germany, has a passionate commitment to musical education for children. Through his generous donation, we are able to expand our music department and establish a strong foundation for nurturing the next generation of musicians in the Eastern Cape.
Our Vision
To broaden the love and appreciation of classical music in the Eastern Cape…
Every note played by our students represents a step toward inspiring future musicians.
Through the universal language of music, we are creating opportunities and igniting dreams for the next generation. This partnership allows us to uplift and empower young talent while fostering international cultural connections.
We are energised by this incredible opportunity and filled with gratitude as we continue this musical journey together, shaping the future of music education in South Africa.
Let the music begin, Maestro!
What were our highlights of 2025?
In August 2024, something extraordinary began at Greenwood Primary School in Gqeberha.
Made possible through the generous sponsorship of entrepreneur and philanthropist Mr. Alexander Valentin and the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Cape Town, the Strings Programme has grown from ten children picking up instruments for the first time into a thriving orchestra — in just eight months!
In their first full year, these young musicians performed at the Grey High School Strings Festival, debuted as a full orchestra ahead of all expectations, and proved that this programme is about so much more than music. It is about confidence, leadership, community, and possibility, broadening the love of classical music across the Eastern Cape, one note at a time.
Find out more about the programme, the young musicians, and their passionate teachers in the video below:
How is the programme expanding?
We have some very exciting news for 2026! As more and more children join the Strings Programme, we need more space. Our solution? A brand new auditorium. Find out more from Mr. Valentin below:

Our strings programme is working hard in preparation for a visit from its founder and donor, Mr Alexander Valentin, on 9 April 2026.
We thank Mr Ntuli and the strings teachers for their leadership and collaboration. We are thrilled to announce that Mr Valentin has generously agreed to finance the building of a new music auditorium to support the growth and development of the strings programme within the Greenwood Primary music department.
Construction will begin in May this year and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
We are now fundraising to outfit the building with furniture, lighting and sound equipment.
